Generally you would find an experienced guitar player and friend to teach you how to play on the guitar or you will join one of the commercial music schools to learn playing guitar when you are interested in learning how to play on guitar. But for many it is not always convenient or possible to do so.
Piano and guitar sheet music are very different. Since a guitar is a string family instrument you will find you are taught not to think in terms of notes like the piano. Learning guitar is going to be a bit different than any other instrument.
If you are beginner piano and want to be a real pianist, a selection of good piano books is really a necessity. You can spend as much time as you want to practicing scales, but it is simply not enough. If all that you do is practice your scales, you will probably get bored with playing piano, and when you get bored, your playing will suffer.
Anyone can learn to play piano if they are willing to put in the practice and effort. If you want to put in the time and effort needed, you will be able to learn how to play the piano. Children and adults of every age can learn how to play piano with some very significant gains in the enjoyment of your life.
