Female hormones and imbalances in them can be blames for abnormal cysts such as endometrioma cyst, adenoma cyst, dermoid cyst and PCOS. These hormones are estrogen and progesterone. Functional cysts and abnormal cysts are not the same. Abnormal cysts happen from abnormal cell growths. But they are not cancerous - they are mostly benign. Researchers are working to know why they are abnormal. It might be the case that cysts remain within the body for an eternity and yet cause no problem but in some cases they may burst and so surgery might be required. The majority of the ovarian cysts are just functional or benign. Nonetheless, the cysts of the hemorrhagic type can be ovarian cysts that are extremely painful. An ovarian cyst is a tiny closed area within an ovary that contains fluids within a thin wall. A follicle that is bigger than 2cm over the usual size is considered to be an ovarian cyst. When it is a matter of hemorrhagic cysts, the other names are: blood cyst; haematocyst; and haematoceles. A classic sign of a hemorrhagic cyst is one where pain is experienced to the right of the abdomen. Bleeding can occur fast and be extensive and submerge the whole ovary rapidly to then generate serious pain. This kind of cyst happens when a blood vessel in the system breaks and blood passes into the system. The blood in the ovary can then start to clot and this can be observed by using a sonogram. Sometimes the hemorrhagic cyst ruptures and the blood is released to flood into the abdominal cavity.
